You can read an ancient account of the martyrdom of Saints Perpetua and Felicitas here. It is a fascinating text, and much of it is presented as the prison diary of Perpetua herself, including accounts of some very image-rich dreams she had. You could then compare your impressions with the graphic novel version published by Oxford University Press: Perpetua's Journey by Jennifer A. Rea and Liz Clarke. This edition contains a lot of interesting and useful supplementary material as well.
